ART PRODUCTION RESIDENCIES AT GODSBANEN’S WORKSHOPS – PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OPEN CALL
The Open Call for the period October 2026 – mid‑2027 is expected to open mid‑May 2026.
Art Production Residencies at Godsbanen’s Workshops are supported by the Augustinus Foundation.

BEFORE YOUR RESIDENCY – ALIGNING EXPECTATIONS
The Workshops
Godsbanen houses six specialised workshops for wood, metal, ceramics, textiles and screen printing, laser, and printmaking. On a daily basis, they are used for everything from hobby production to professional artistic practice.
Every day, our coordinators and volunteers support all stages of the creative value chain, following the principle of help to self‑help.
When there are many users, there is less time for each individual; when there are fewer users, there is more time. You should therefore not expect undivided attention during opening hours.
It is important to us that you understand that we serve many different user groups. In this respect, we differ significantly from The Danish Arts Foundation’s Workshops for Art (SVFK). However, we are in close dialogue with SVFK and draw on their experience. SVFK is also represented on the jury.
What type of residency can I apply for?
As a professional artist, you may apply for either a production residency or a research residency. This means that your stay at Godsbanen may form part of the production of, for example, a specific artwork, exhibition, or public art commission, or be part of a practice‑ and material‑based research phase of an art project.
The purpose of the project must be clearly stated in your application.
Am I insured?
No. Godsbanen does not have insurance covering you or your work. You are responsible for arranging any insurance you may need during your residency.
Can several artists apply together?
Yes, applications may be submitted jointly by several artists. This must be stated in the application, along with the group’s contact person. Only one joint application is uploaded, but CVs for all group members must be attached.
DURING YOUR RESIDENCY – ALIGNING EXPECTATIONS
Can I use the studio 24/7?
Yes. You will receive a key fob for Perron 3, giving you unlimited access to the 68 m² studio throughout the residency period. The studio is located in the Production Corridor close to Godsbanen’s workshops.
Do I have to pay to use Godsbanen’s workshops?
No. You have free access during opening hours in the agreed period, with good opportunities for assistance.
Is access to the workshops also free outside opening hours?
Yes, but this requires approval from the workshop coordinators for safety reasons. Courses may occasionally mean that a workshop is fully booked.
If training is required and cannot take place during regular opening hours, you must cover the cost yourself.
Can I receive one‑to‑one professional guidance?
Yes. One‑to‑one guidance can be arranged with the relevant coordinator. The cost is DKK 500 per hour. This ensures uninterrupted support from our highly skilled staff.
Will I be introduced to the facilities?
Yes. You will be introduced to the facilities by the relevant workshop coordinators.
You are expected to already have the skills required to work with the necessary techniques. If not, you are responsible for hiring a professional to assist you.
Can I use multiple workshops during my residency?
Yes, this is not a problem.
Purchase of materials
Godsbanen’s Workshops have material stores where basic materials can be purchased. If you wish to special‑order additional materials from our suppliers, we are happy to assist. This involves an administration fee of DKK 125.
We therefore recommend pooling your material orders.
You may also order materials from external suppliers yourself. In this case, you are responsible for ensuring that the materials are compatible with the workshops, tools, and machines you intend to use.
How much may I deviate from what I described in my application?
We understand that your project may change during the process. We also expect you to understand our internal planning constraints.
If your project deviates significantly from what you described in your application, this may conflict with other considerations. We will do everything we can to help, but the workshops are often busy. The more we can plan and align expectations in advance, the better we can support you.
May I drill into the walls of the studio?
No. The space must be used responsibly, and no permanent alterations may be made. However, you may pin items to the notice boards, and the room can be blacked out. If you require protective covering, you must arrange this yourself.
What about smoke, odours, and dust?
When planning activities, you must take other users of the building and nearby neighbours into consideration, for example regarding odour and dust nuisance.
For dusty work, tools must always be connected to a vacuum system, either the fixed system in the room or a mobile vacuum, as otherwise the fire alarm may be triggered.
Work or activities that generate smoke are not permitted, as they will also activate the fire alarm.
What about safety?
You may consult the workshop coordinator for advice. It is particularly important that you do so before using workshop machinery for the first time.
Consumption of alcohol or other intoxicants is not permitted in the workshops for safety reasons.
Will the residency be communicated publicly?
Yes. Your project and work process will be presented in words and images on Godsbanen’s website and social media. The purpose is to raise awareness of Godsbanen’s art production residencies and to provide insight into artistic work processes.
Open studio days during the period are considered a plus.
How should I credit the residency?
When exhibiting or marketing your work, you are required to credit that the project was created at Godsbanen and supported by the Augustinus Foundation.
Is accommodation provided?
No. However, if you require accommodation, you are welcome to contact Venue Rentals. We have guest rooms available for rent.
Contributing to a good working environment during your residency
Godsbanen serves general users, emerging practitioners, students, and the professional art and culture sector alike. This is a substantial task, which we take pride in solving every day.
The workshops welcome users with a wide range of creative ambitions and technical skills, and staff make great efforts to meet everyone where they are. We therefore ask that you approach both the workshops and staff with understanding of this task.
We encourage you to use the workshops outside peak hours and to make arrangements with workshop coordinators in advance if you require individual guidance.
AFTER YOUR RESIDENCY
Evaluation
After completing your residency, we expect you to help us by completing a short evaluation of the programme.
