ART PRODUCTION RESIDENCY AT GODSBANEN’S WORKSHOPS

The Art Production Residency at Godsbanen’s Workshops is an initiative that supports the professional visual arts community, particularly in Western Denmark.

Here, visual artists can apply for a residency as part of their artistic production or research work, gaining access to a large workspace/studio, Godsbanen’s specialized workshops, and professional guidance from the workshop staff.

With these residencies, Godsbanen aims to strengthen the country’s artistic production capacity by providing more opportunities for more artists. At the same time, the project contributes to developing creative art in the region by giving artists more time and resources to work on larger art projects locally.

As part of the project, Godsbanen has entered into a collaboration with The Jutland Art Academy. Three months each year, Godsbanen’s production space will be reserved for students from The Jutland Art Academy, who—like professional artists—will have access to the workshops for the production of their graduation exhibitions.

The Art Production Residency at Godsbanen’s Workshops is a three-year project (2024–2027), supported by the Augustinus Foundation.

HOW ARE THE PROJECTS SELECTED?

A professional art jury is responsible for selecting the artists and projects awarded a residency. The jury permanently includes the Head of Godsbanen’s Workshops and the Director of the Danish Art Workshops. In addition, Kulturproduktionscenter Godsbanen and Aarhus Visual Arts Center (AaBKC) each appoint one jury member for one year at a time, while the Danish Visual Artists Association (BKF) appoints a jury member for a two-year term.
After this, the workshop coordinators assess the projects in relation to facilities and time requirements.

In 2025–2026, the jury consists of:

  • Jesper Kinnerup, Head of Godsbanen’s Workshops
  • Frederik Hardvendel, Director of the Danish Art Workshops
  • Tanja Nellemann Kruse, professional visual artist (appointed by Godsbanen)
  • Trine Struwe, professional visual artist (appointed by BKF)
  • Line Sandvad Mengers, professional visual artist (appointed by Aarhus Visual Arts Center)
