For billedkunstner Ruth Campau er det vigtigt, at kunstværket opleves med hele kroppen og ikke blot øjnene. Dette signaleres allerede i titlen “Quick, Quick, Slow”, der byder op til dans. Både titel og værk forholder sig til rytme og bevægelse og til kontrasten mellem det hurtige og det langsomme. I værket “Quick, Quick, Slow” må kunsten gerne betrædes.

“Quick, Quick, Slow” består af bemalede akrylplader, som tilsammen danner et farverigt og dynamisk landskab under fødderne. I den kunstneriske proces bruger Campau sin egen krop som en slags redskab. Hun maler sine akrylplader med en kost, mens pladerne ligger fladt på gulvet. Resultatet er både stramt og konsekvent. Samtidig vibrerer farven og små ujævnheder giver puls og vildskab til udtrykket.

Trods Campaus anvendelse af maling og penselstrøg skaber hun ikke maleri i traditionel forstand. Gulvværket “Quick, Quick, Slow” er lavet specifikt til Godsbanen, hvor det forholder sig til det omgivende rum og sted. Det er derfor et godt eksempel på, hvordan Campau udvider maleriets grænser i både arkitektonisk og social forstand. Hun integrerer kunst i hverdagen og gør den til en naturlig medspiller i vores omgivelser.

Artist Ruth Campau insists that art should be experienced with the whole body, not just the eyes. This is clearly indicated in the title alone, Quick, Quick, Slow, which invites you to dance. The title and artwork engage directly with rhythm and movement – and with the contrast between the fast and the slow. Hence, Quick, Quick, Slow is a rare exception: a work of art that is meant to be walked on.

Quick, Quick, Slow consists of painted acrylic panels which together form a colourful and dynamic landscape underfoot. In her creative process, Campau uses her own body as a tool. She paints her acrylic panels with a broom while the panels lie flat on the floor. The result is stringently crisp. Yet at same time, the dynamically vibrant colour adds a beating pulse and untamed wildness to the overall expression.

Despite Campau’s use of paint and brushstrokes, she does not create painting in the traditional sense. The floor piece Quick, Quick, Slow is made specifically for Godsbanen, where it relates directly to its setting and space. This makes it an excellent example of how Campau expands the boundaries of painting in an architectural and social sense alike. She integrates art into everyday life, making it a natural part of our surroundings.
